Pearl Augusta Poole

Pearl Augusta Poole was born on October 15, 1924 in Talladega, Alabama; she was the eldest of four children. Pearl met John Poole while working at the B.F. Goodrich Company in Akron, Ohio, after he returned from World War II in 1945, John and Pearl married. They were married for forty plus years until John's death in 1996. From their marital union three children were born Teresa, David, and Eric E. Poole.

Pearl was a Pediatric Registered Nurse at Akron City Hospital for ten years. Her love for children influenced her work with the March of Dimes, where she would collect monies for the organization. Pearl viewed her community as an extension of her family; she was a member of the Lucy Street Block Club. She was one of the last living members of the old Lucy Street neighborhood; they were more like family than just neighbors.

She valued the right to vote and how one's vote could impact the community. She made a commitment to her community to work at the voting polls for over twenty years by signing in voters and collecting their ballot on voting day. Pearl was also a bowler and a member of the Bowlerrets a traveling bowling team that traveled to different cities and states for tournaments. She was the clubs treasurer. She enjoyed the fellowship and fun with the Bowlerrets, they met once a month at each other's homes to eat and played cards.

Pearl was a stylish and sophisticated woman. She was always well groomed from head to toe. She loved getting her hair done bi-weekly, and her smile was contagious. She always spoke in a soft voice with an encouraging word.

She was preceded in death by husband, John; daughter, Teresa; and brothers, Williams and Charles Chambliss. She is survived by her sons, David and Eric E. Poole of Akron, Ohio; brother, Tommy Wilson of Calera, Alabama; cousins, John Lovett of Montgomery, Alabama, Charles Chambliss of Wheeling W.Va., Mr. and Mrs. Reggis Adams of Akron, Ohio; special nephew, Gregory Chambliss, of Akron, Ohio who was more like a son than a nephew that aided in taking care of Pearl during her illness, and did with so much care and love; niece, Regina Chambliss-Martin of Akron, Ohio; extended family, son, Clifford Blackmon and sister, Shirley Summers and many family, friends and neighbors.
