DEATH OF PRISON INSPECTOR WESSNER; Kutztown: Lennius Wessner, prison inspector, died on Saturday at, 4.40 p.m. of Bright's disease of the Kidneys, after an illness of over a year. SKETCH, OF HIS LIFE; Mr. Wessner was nominated for prison inspector at the Republican County convention of 1895. Receiving on the second ballot 116 votes to 84 votes cast by the opposition. He regularly attended the meetings of the prison board until last September, when he was prostrated by the ailment with which he had been afflicted some months previous. He was confined to bed over 5 months and was a severe sufferer. Towards the last, dropsical and other affections set in, and an operation was performed, but this afforded only temporary relief. He is survived by his widow and 9 children. He was a member of the Sons of America, in which he took a deep interest. Mr. Wessner was 53 years of age and was born in Albany, but resided in Maxatawny many years. In early life he learned the trade of Carpenter, and up to his illness was engaged in contracting. He erected nearly all the buildings at Keystone State Normal School, and was superintendent of the Kutztown Fair for some years. He was a valued citizen, faithful in the discharge of his duties as prison inspector and was well known throughout Eastern Berks. His successor to the prison board will be named by the two remaining Republican members– Alexander Schlottman, of Reading, and George Wagner, of Shartlesville. .
