Ernest Glover Stewart Sr.
Compliments of Lakeview Memorial Park
Ernest Glover Stewart Sr., was born on February 15th 1930, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the 5th of 7 children born to the late, George Stewart Sr. and Laura (Randolph) Stewart. Ernest grew up in South Philadelphia he attended public school and graduated from Bartram High School. While attending high school he met the love of his life, Alice while walking home from playing basketball at the gym. It was love at first sight. So a short time later with the permission of Alice grandfather Perry, Alice and Ernest were married on November 20th 1948 when Ernest was 18 years old and Alice was 16 years old. At the age of 19, Ernest joined the Philadelphia Police Force and served proudly moving up the ranks before retiring as a Police Lieutenant after 33 years, but before doing so he took the Captain’s test and he passed, he just wanted to see if he could and he did, this was a very proud moment for him. Another Proud moment was when he attended College while holding down a job and family responsibilities, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Penn State University and it took him only six years, but he had the determination and drive to finish what he started. Afterwards he would move his family to Los Angeles, California for one year where he taught at a High School there, but he and his family missed their home so he moved back to Philly. Once settled in back home, he then worked for Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) for 10 more years. And he finally, really retired this time. Ernest and Alice loved to travel often taking their children and later grandchildren with them to Florida and Wildwood for vacations almost every year. They would drive across country with us, which was so much fun for everyone, eating, singing, playing games, sleeping, shopping and discussing the daily text; it was something we all looked forward to. They also discovered a love for cruises often cruising to the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and other romantic places to spend some quality alone time together. Dad really enjoyed his wife’s cooking and she enjoyed preparing those tasty dishes for him, the kids, grands and friends too. Ernest and Alice took very good care of their family with not only providing physical food but spiritual food as well. He felt the need to get more spiritual, so he decided to study the Bible with his youngest son, Andre and dedicated his life in Jehovah’s service and got baptized, as many years previously his wife had done and they both remained faithful to Jehovah until the end. They would have been married 68 years this past November 20th 2016. On Sunday, April 2nd 2017 in the early evening at Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Ernest heart gave out, he passed away peacefully and quietly we were told. Ernest was the beloved husband of the (late Alice Stewart). Loving father to daughter Sharon Jacobs-Pollard (her husband Paul C. Pollard Jr.), son Darrell B. Stewart (his wife Pamela), son Andre R. Stewart, the late Ernest G. Stewart Jr. (Jacqueline), and the late Perry R. Stewart. Dear Grandfather of Shakira, Suncereé, Perry Jr., Shonda, and Tiffany. Great Grandfather to Mascio, Mon-Cheri, Kiaer, Marcellous, Aaliyah, Shayla, K.J., Macayla, Jayden, and Mahogany. Loving brother of Ethel Patterson and Robert Stewart. He also leaves behind a host of relatives, friends and his spiritual family. Ernest affectionately called ‘StewBaby’ by his only daughter, will be dearly and deeply missed, but so beloved.
