The Life of Nickes Stelly

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Nickes "PopPee" Stelly, age 98, who died at 3:30 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his residence in Milton.

Entombment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Reverend Aaron Melancon, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Claudine Desormeaux. Karen Broussard, organist, will sing for the services, "Psalm 23", "J''irai la voir un jour", "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art" and "Be Not Afraid".

Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Adele P. Stelly of Milton; one daughter, Savannah S. Miller of Milton; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; four sisters, Elba Stelly of Lafayette, Theresa Stelly of Baton Rouge, Beverly Boudreaux of Lafayette and Shirley Daigle and her husband Joe of Lafayette; and one brother, Lee Stelly and his wife, Shirley of Breaux Bridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Stelly and the former Anna Savoy; one son, Lawrence James Stelly; four brothers, Laly, J.B., Jacques and Alex Stelly; four sisters, Lela Stelly, Regina Pellerin, Mable Hayes and Rena Guidry.

Mr. Stelly was born on October 11, 1915 in Arnaudville, Louisiana and was a resident of Milton, Louisiana for 44 years. He was a Veteran of military service and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Mr. Stelly was a gifted Carpenter and worked in the Construction Industry. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. Mr. Stelly was very loving and always put other peoples needs before his own. He enjoyed listening to French music. Mr. Stelly was a devout parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care, especially to RN Monica, HHA Rachel and Chaplain Patrick and Dr. Darrin Menard and Staff.

Pallbearers will be Troy Miller, Marty Miller, Todd Miller, Chris Stelly, Kyle Miller and Nicholas Stelly. Honorary Pallbearer will be Lee Stelly.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of the Funeral Mass.

A Rosary will be prayed Sunday at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
