The Life of Paula Simon
Paula Roy Simon passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Lafayette General Hospital. Paula was born in Opelousas Louisiana in 1927, to Charles Wills Roy and Leola Martin Roy of Lafayette. She grew up in Opelousas, went to high-school at the Academy of the Immaculate Conception, and then attended college at ULL. The roots of her family are well established in the history of Lafayette and the surrounding areas. She was loved dearly by her family and friends, and her laughter and joy will be deeply missed.
Paula worked for Sun Oil Company for several years and retired upon her marriage to Huey Simon. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society. She was a devoted and passionate Pink Lady at Lafayette General for 28 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Huey A. Simon, and is survived by her children Sonny Hicks; Dale Wier; Paula Wier Scofield and her husband Jim Scofield; granddaughter Carolyn Scofield; sister Margaret Rucks and her husband William Rucks III; nephew William Rucks IV and his wife Cathy; niece Margaret G. Rucks; and niece Elizabeth Scott and her husband Tony. She also leaves behind many loved great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Jessica Mothersbaugh, RN, and Dr. Javier Dieguez, MD at Lafayette General for their compassion, skill, and professionalism in her final hours.
Services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. with a rosary at 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 1:00 pm, located at 419 Doucet Road. The burial service will be at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lafayette General Ladies Auxiliary / ICU Department, 1214 Coolidge Street, Lafayette, LA 70503, in the name of Paula Simon.
