The Life of Marvin Howze

Services will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette, Louisiana, for Marvin P. Howze who was born on July 27, 1927 and passed away on January 1, 2014 in Lafayette, LA

Mr. Howze was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S.Navy aboard the USS Doyle DMS 34. He was employed by South Central Bell Telephone Service and retired after 38 years of service.

Just a few of his accomplishment, in addition to being an avid golfer, include: former member Knights of Columbus, co-founder and leader of a Boy Scout of America Troop in West Monroe, LA; officer of Telephone Credit Union – Monroe, LA Chapter.

Mr. Howze was also a member of Rotary International, Acadiana Home Builders Association and the Telephone Pioneers Association (Past-President – Evangeline Council). He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, having served as the former President of the Holy Cross Parish Council. He was also a teacher of religious education, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a volunteer for Hospice of Acadiana.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mae W. Howze and three children: Damon Howze of Austin, Texas; Greg (Melinda) Howze and Joan Howze of Lafayette; eight adoring grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a large extended family.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 11:00 am until time of service at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana 70506.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lady of the Oaks Nursing Home, Dr. Charles Dugal and Judy Guillory and Heart of Hospice for the wonderful care given to Marvin. Also, the family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Bill Williams and Keller Madere for their friendship with Marvin and the time they shared with him up until the end.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mr. Howze’s memory to the charity of your choice and that you take a moment to do something nice for someone today, paying it forward in the spirit of Marvin’s giving nature.
