The Life of Marjorie Gardner

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 11, 2013 in Asbury United Methodist Church for Marjorie B. Gardner, 89, who passed away on November 6, 2013 at 8:20 pm at Lafayette Care Center. Reverend Richard Humphries, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Gardner, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late George Boutte and the former Edna Triay. Margie was a graduate of SLI and a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She retired after 30 years of service as head secretary of Phillips Petroleum Co. in Lafayette. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of UMW and the Ladies'' Bible Class. For many years she delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at The Nook, a charitable clothing exchange sponsored by Asbury United Methodist Church. In April 1970, she met and married William "Red" Gardner of Lafayette, with whom she owned City News Stand on Jefferson Street. Together they were foster parents to Betty M. Broussard and foster grandparents to Cissy, Margie and Ashley Broussard, all of Broussard, LA. "Boogie" was always very involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She loved and was loved by all who knew her and never had a harsh word for anyone. She is survived by two sisters, Ramona B. McDaniel of Lafayette, LA and Georgia B. Courtney and husband Dudley of Dandridge, TN; nieces and nephews Colleen M. Chappuis and husband John of Lafayette, LA, Kenneth H. Courtney and wife Kathy of Aiken, SC, Cary A. Courtney and wife Shirley of Dandridge, TN, Marjorie M. Lynch and husband Marcus of Eugene, OR and Craig T. Courtney of Dandridge, TN; Margaret Gardner of Houston, TX, Erin G. Joyner of Metairie, LA, Steven Gardner and wife Jennifer of Lafayette, LA, Michael Gardner and wife Kim of Lafayette, LA; Mary G. Peters and husband Larry of Stockbridge, GA, and Christine G. Walker and husband Shane of Stockbridge, GA, and many great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William James Gardner . The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 Live Oak Boulevard, Lafayette, LA 70503, on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 9:30 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be John Chappuis, Scott Chappuis, Kenneth Courtney, Cary Courtney, Christopher Courtney, Nicholas Manceaux, Steven Gardner and Michael Gardner. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Betty Hebert of Carencro, Judy Clostio of Lafayette, and Latanya Pitre of Crowley.
