The Life of Sophie Mouton

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013, at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Sophie G. Mouton, 81, who died on Friday, November 1, 2013 at her residence in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Kevin Bordelon, Associate Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Mrs. Mouton''s brother, Reverend Charles Girard, will Concelebrate. Stephanie Hoffpauir, soloist, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, will sing "Ave Maria", "On Eagle''s Wings", "Pie Jesu" and "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" for the services. Survivors include two sons, Edmond C. Mouton, Jr. and his wife, Sandra and Larry P. Mouton; two grandchildren, Charles E. Mouton and Rachel A. Mouton; and two brothers, John A. Girard and his wife, Barbara and Rev. Charles Girard. She was preceded in death by her husband Edmond C. Mouton, Sr.; one son, August "Gus" Mouton; and her parents, Charles August and Oleta Trahan Girard. A native of St. Martin Parish and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life, Sophie Mouton retired as an administrative assistant in the oil and gas industry after over thirty years of service. She was a member of the St. John''s Ladies Altar Society, St. Anne''s Society and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary Council 1286. Mrs. Mouton spent many hours volunteering for St. John''s Cathedral helping with cemetery records and assisted in the grounds beautification. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, St. Vincent de Paul Society and other local organizations. After retirement, Mrs. Mouton assisted her brother with the accounting and managing of farm properties in St. Martin Parish. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Mouton will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. Pallbearers will be Charles Mouton, Mark Billeaud, Richard Domingues, Robert Benoit, Michael Helms and Casey Fowler. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 9:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Monday at 10:30 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Home Instead Home Health Care, especially her caregiver Suellen Hull, for her loving and compassionate care. Also thanks to Hospice Compassus for all of their kindness and attention.
