The Life of Herbert W Grebe

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at a 9:00 A.M. Memorial Service in Episcopal Church of the Ascension for Herbert W. Grebe, 71, who died on Monday, September 23, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Immediately following, Inurnment will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Reverend Dr. Duane E. Petersen will officiate the services. Herbert W. Grebe was born November 10, 1941 in Refugio, Texas. He was a veteran and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Signal Corps, serving in Korea. Herb started his oil field career in Houston, Texas and spent many years traveling internationally in Venezuela and throughout South East Asia. He lived with his wife, Sharon and step-son Rhett in Singapore and Aberdeen, Scotland for over six years. He returned to Houston in 1984 and settled in Lafayette, Sharon’s home town, in 1985. He was very active with LAGCOE and was a member of Nomads. Following his retirement from Smith International, Herb established himself as a petroleum consultant for another 8 years. Throughout his life, Herb was an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing whenever the opportunity arose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Leonard Grebe and Francis Sue Vest Grebe of Houston, Texas. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sharon Franques Grebe; daughter, Colleen Carol Simmons and her husband, Gregory from Barto, PA; son, Herbert Clinton Grebe Stringer and his wife, M’Liss from Tours, France; step-son, John Rhett Russo and his wife, Katrin Mueller Russo from Brooklyn, New York; sister Carol Sims; brother Len Grebe and his wife, Sybil; six grandchildren, Caleb and Carol Simmons, Emma and Clara Stringer and Sebastian and Francisca Russo. His family extends a special thank you to his compassionate caregivers at Maison de Lafayette. They would also like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Lafayette General Medical Center for their care and comfort, as well as St. Joseph Hospice.
