The Life of Eve Guidry

Eve Nunez Guidry, 82, of Judice, La., passed away September 13, 2013, in her home with her devoted husband by her side. She was born to the late Magnus and Anna Duhon Nunez on Septermber 10, 1931, in Cow Island, La., and graduated from E. Broussard High School in 1948. She married her husband Floyd Guidry of Judice, La., on her birthday in 1949 and they lived in Lafayette for most of their marriage until recently relocating back to Judice. Passionate about education and childhood development, “Miss Eve” began her career as a teacher and retired as a guidance counselor at Carencro High School. She was also a very competitive golfer, who played her “cow pasture pool” religiously on the weekends. She was an avid reader, would talk to anyone and everyone in the checkout line, and try to teach you to two-step in her kitchen. She loved to travel and kept a magnet record of all of the states that she and her husband visited. Although she had many interests and passions, the most important things to her were her family and friends, with her most common questions being, “Are you hungry? Can I make you something to eat?” Eve is survived by her husband, Floyd Guidry and her two children: Nancy Guidry McCartney of Lafayette; and Robert Guidry of New Iberia, and his wife Teri. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Erin McCartney Gravois, Jason McCartney, JoAnna Guidry Kitchens, Rachel Guidry, and Robert Guidry; and five great-grandchildren. Special thanks go to the staff at Hospice of Acadiana for their superior care, with heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shirley Covington and Patty Cambell. The family would also like to thank “Miss Vanessa” and “Miss Rose,” her caregivers who were so loving and generous with their time and energy. The visitation will take place at Walters Funeral Home on Monday, September 16, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., and resume at 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary will be prayed on Monday evening at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at St. Basil Church in Judice at 11 a.m. and interment to follow at Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Rex Broussard, pastor of St. Basil Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant. Gift bearers will be Erin Gravois, JoAnna Kitchens, and Rachel Guidry. Walters Funeral Home, 2424 N. University Ave., Lafayette, LA 70507; (337) 706-8941 is in charge of arrangements.
