The Life of Ted R Poynter Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on September 1, 2013 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Ted Poynter, 86, who passed away at his long time residence in Lafayette on August 29, 2013 in the loving arms of his daughters. Dr. Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. A private burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Mr. Poynter, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Theodore Poynter, Sr., and the former Eva Medley. He was a native of Cotter, AR and a resident of Lafayette since 1959. Mr. Poynter was a decorated WWII Veteran, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. He was privileged to be part of the Louisiana Honor Air Flight to Washington DC. It was a memorable trip for him. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Poynter was an executive of Global Life and Accident Insurance Company for 34 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was also a member, or past member of many organizations including: American Legion (62 years), VFW, Optimist Club, Acadiana Life Underwriters Assoc., Oakbourne Country Club, Petroleum Club of Lafayette, Krewe of Zeus, City Club of Lafayette, Lafayette Boat Club, and Greater Gulf Coast Boating Association. He is survived by two daughters, Diane P. Farley of Lafayette, LA and Debra P. McBride and husband Gene of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, David C. Morales, Jr. of New Orleans, LA, Tamra Minter of Honolulu, HI and Charles Lafleur of Rifle, CO: two great grandchildren, Jacob Lafleur and Emma Minter; three sisters, Inez Cowling of Albion, IL, Shirley Bond of Bethany, IL and Tennie Caldwell of Norcross, GA; and one brother, John W. Poynter of Keithville, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 47 years, Delores Poynter; two sisters Dottie Bennett and Velma Poynter; and one brother, Jack C. Poynter. Mr. Poynter was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 10:00 am until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be sent in the Poynter name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Ste 200, Lafayette, LA, 70503.
