The Life of Roy Dean Cooper

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM in Martin and Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Roy D. Cooper, 71, who died on Thursday, August 1, 2013 as a result of a motorcycle accident in Broussard. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Millard Boyer, Chaplain of Lafayette General Medical Center, will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include his beloved wife of 44 years, Nicole "Niki" Cooper; two children, Phillip Cooper and Christy Cooper Judice and her husband Ryan (Fester) Judice; one grandson, Cole Cooper; four sisters, Julia LeBleu, Martha Poirier, Hazel Hebert and Cathy Almeida and her husband Dennis; one brother, Orville Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Orville and Virginia Lee Poindexter Cooper; and two sisters, Brenda Morvant and Velvia Field. A lifelong resident of Lafayette, Roy "Pop" proudly served his country in the United States Army and was involved in power line construction with Slemco, Jeff Davis Electric and LUS through Chain Electric. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with friends and spending time with family, especially his "Lil Buddy" Cole. He loved Mardi Gras and was a past member of the Krewe of Bonaparte and current member of the Krewe of Rio. "Pop" will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Thibodeaux, Rick Baker, Dennis Almeida, Bruce Lawler, Terry Bienvenu, Jimmy Martin, Tamara Louviere, Jenny Boutte and Candy Hebert. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cole Cooper, Orville Cooper and the LA Riders MC. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin and Castille''s SOUTHSIDE Lafayette location on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
