The Life of Albert Edward Pumford Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Albert Edward Pumford, Jr.,76, who passed away at Lafayette General Medical Center. Rev. Rosiland Hummert will officiate at the funeral services. Mr. Pumford, the son of the late Albert Edward Pumford, Sr. and the former Eloise Maney was a native of Asheville, North Carolina. He was a veteran of the military, having served in the Navy and being on the Underwater Demolisher Team in the Korean Conflict. He re enlisted in the Air Force after graduating from college and served in the Vietnam War. While serving in the Armed Forces he received both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed aviation. He was also a member of the Abbeville T Hanger Association. He was known to his grandchildren as ''Opa''. Mr. Pumford volunteered at VITA and taught people how to read. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Duppich Pumford; one daughter, Kathleen Pumford of New Orleans; one son, Michael Timothy Pumford and wife, Kathryn of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Thelen and Chandler Pumford; Aunt Ruth Stout of Rumson, New Jersey; Uncle Richard Maney and wife, Lucy and cousin, Bill Stout and wife, Lani. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Jean Pumford. Visiting hours will be observed on Sunday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Special thanks are to be given to the doctors, nurses and staff of Lafayette General Medical Center and Extensive Care. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette is in charge of all arrangements.
