The Life of Nellie Jane Comeaux

Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 am Catholic Service on Monday, June 17, 2013 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers, for Nellie Jane Comeaux, 77, of Lafayette, Louisiana who passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Nellie Jane Comeaux was born on October 16, 1935 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Jean Jaques Fournet and Anne Aurore Labbe’. She graduated from Southerwestern Louisiana Institute in 1957 with a degree in education and studied for her masters in Psychology. She worked as a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare in Honolulu, Hawaii and closer to home in Shreveport, St. Martinville, and Lafayette; also Southwestern Louisiana Rehabilitation Center. She also worked as a realtor for Van Eaton & Romero. She was an active member of Tri Delta and Beta Sigma Phi sororities, Chorale Acadienne, Lafayette Pharmaceutical Auxiliary, National Association of Social Workers and the Community Concert Association. Nellie enjoyed gardening, traveling with husband and close friends, watching the Saints and LSU Football. She loved an engaging conversation and was interested in keeping current with her loved ones. She looked forward to the Fournet Family Reunion and Thanksgiving, which brought much joy and kept the family close. She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Kathryn Elizabeth and Thomas Lessard, James Fournet and Jennifer Rideout Comeaux, Stephan Andre and Catherine Schoeffler Comeaux; grand children, Jennifer Ann Donovan and her husband Michael, Katelyn Camille Christensen and her husband Brad, Meaghan Elizabeth Lessard, Kristen Clare Lessard, Camille Agnes Aurore Comeaux, Caroline Marie-Elise Comeaux, Jolie Claire Comeaux, Cecile Frances Comeaux, and Amelie Jacques Comeaux; her siblings Howard Fournet, Frederick Fournet, Anna Louise Fournet, and Daniel Fournet. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years James Carol Comeaux, her parents; sister Marie Jeanne Fournet Holly; and brothers Paul Fournet, James Fournet, Thomas Fournet, and Robert Fournet. Visitation will take place at Delhomme Funeral Home on Sunday, June 16, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 8:00 am until time of services. Pallbearers will be her sons, James and Stephan Comeaux, Charles Fournet, Jacques and Henri Fournet, and Thomas Baird. The family would like to thank her caregivers over the past years for their loving care and comfort.
