The Life of Joseph S Pharo

Joseph S. Pharo was born August 5, 1921 in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Pharo is the son of the late Louis N. Pharo and the former Helen Sobb. He passed away Saturday March 30, 2013. He graduated from Norwood High in 1939 and from the US Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, NY in 1944. He also attended the Birmingham School of Law for 2 years. He was a lieutenant in the US Coast Guard retired. He sailed as a 2nd officer with the U.S. Merchant Marines during WW II from 1944 to 1948, travelling all over the world. Mr. Pharo was the owner of Pharo Appraisal and Real Estate for 50 years in Lafayette. He was a member of the American Society of Appraisers, American Right of Way Association and the National Association of Realtors. He was a graduate of the Realtors Institute and served as the secretary, vice-president and president of the Lafayette Board of Realtors. He also served as the director of the State Association of Realtors. He was voted as Realtor of the Year in 1967. He was a member of St Pius X Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years Mary Helen Hannie Pharo, and five sisters Vivian Griggs, Evelyn Frost, Agrivine Souleotes, Alvina Tidwell, Lucille Lynch and his daughter-in-law Cathy Milek Pharo. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by one sister, Camille Swan of Grand Rapides, Michigan, his son Dr. Wayne Pharo of Thibodaux, LA and two daughters Patty L. Hidalgo and Paula P. Simm and her husband Dr. Mike Simm of Lafayette. His seven grandchildren, Austin Pharo, Lauren Pharo, Daniel Pharo, Adrian Simm, Jr, Alex Simm, Andrew Simm, Jennifer H Bourque and her husband Joseph, Justin Hidalgo and great grand daughter Isabella Grace Hidalgo and numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s SOUTHSIDE location on Saturday from 10:30 AM until time of service. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at an 11:30 AM Mass in Martin & Castille''s La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette. Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Burial will be at a later date at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Carmelite Monastery, 1250 Carmel Ave, Lafayette LA 70501-4651.
