The Life of Ruffin Thomson Lowry

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 3:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Ruffin Thomson Lowry, 92, who died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at his residence in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Kevin Bordelon, Associate Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Eulogist will be Buzz Lowry. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing "How Great Thou Art", "On Eagles'' Wings", "Peace In The Valley" and "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the service. He is survived by one son, Michael Lowry and his wife Vicky; six grandchildren, Jonathon T. Lowry, Michael Thomas Lowry, Laney Lowry, Logan Lowry, Candace Landry and Nicole Guilbeaux; eight great grandchildren, Walker Reed Lowry, Bennette Lowry, Amalie Elizabeth Green, Christian M. Lowry, Hope Landry, Paige Himel, Josh Himel, Jr. and Summer Guilbeaux; and two brothers, Ben Lowry, Jr. and William Thomson Lowry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maclyn Martin Lowry; one daughter, Catherine Ann Lowry; parents, Ben S. and Cynathia Thomson Potter Lowry; one sister, Frances Mayes Dunn; and one brother, Wiley Potter Lowry. A native of Jackson, MS and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Ruffin Lowry attended the Marion Military Institute and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during WWII, having received a Purple Heart. He was enlisted in 1942 as a Sgt. with the China Burma India Air Force. He graduated from The University of Mississippi Law School (aka Ole Miss), but never practiced law. Soon after passing the Mississippi State Bar exam, he moved to Lafayette to work in the oilfield as a landman. He was the owner of Mar-Low Corp. and PE Rentals, Inc. and a member of the Lafayette Association of Professional Landmen. Mr. Lowry was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed hunting and spending time at his second home in New Orleans. He was a member of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette and loved visiting with his friends and the staff there. Ruffin Lowry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Michael T. Lowry, Jonathon T. Lowry, Logan Lowry, Kenneth W. Marks, Josh Himel, Sr. and Delton Auzenne. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 9:00 AM until the time of service, with a Rosary prayed at 1:00 PM.
