The Life of Murphy Joseph Broussard

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Murphy Joseph Broussard, 85, who died on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at his residence in Sunset surrounded by his family. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Louis Allen Breaux, Pastor of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Ricky Thibodeaux and Audrey Gary. Giftbearers will be Carter Fletcher and Casey Fletcher. Musical selections will be "Amazing Grace," " Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Ave Maria," and "Here I Am Lord." He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary Lou Broussard; four daughters, Della Saltzman and her husband, Mike, Susan Thibodeaux and her husband, Clarence, Penny Lima and her husband, Angelo and Marion Gaspard and her husband, Lloyd; three sons, Darrell Broussard, Robert Broussard and James Broussard and Susan; one sister, Neola Turner; one brother, Olan Broussard and his wife, Edly; twelve grandchildren, Christopher Hollier and his wife, Christy, Michelo Saltzman and his wife, Leslee, Ricky Thibodeaux and his wife, Bethanie, Gary Barnett and his wife, Jamie, Nicholas Saltzman, Ryan Broussard, Jean Thibodeaux, Kris Barnett, Casey Fletcher and her husband, Ray, Chelsea Gaspard, Rylie Lima and Cherie Patout and her husband, Colby; and seventeen great grandchildren, Carter Fletcher, Carson Fletcher, Rie Fletcher, Emma Saltzman, Addison Saltzman, Rivers Saltzman, Audie Hollier, Jaelynn Hollier, Melissa Thibodeaux, Mia Thibodeaux, Makenzie Thibodeaux, Hayden Barnett, Graydon Barnett, Gage Landry, Shelby Patout, Kallie Patout and Madeline Snyder.. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludon and Agnes Luquette Broussard; and one brother, Ivy Broussard. Murphy Joseph Broussard was born on March 17, 1927 in Maurice, Louisiana and resided in Sunset for most of his life. He was a member of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII, stationed on the USS Alabama. Mr. Broussard was also a charter member of VFW Post 9822 in Judice. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all and will be dearly missed. Pallbearers will be Michelo Saltzman, Nicholas Saltzman, Christopher Hollier, Ryan Broussard, Ricky Thibodeaux, Jeán Thibodeaux and Carter Fletcher. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Location. The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will continue on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Heart of Hospice, especially Sheila Andrus (CNA), Theristan Chretien (RN) and Chaplain Jack Hall, for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to Mr. Broussard and his family during their time of need.
