The Life of Hilda Duhon

A true Angel was called home to rest. Hilda D. Duhon, 92, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Reverend Harold Trahan, Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Jodi Bollich, soloist, accompanied by Deborah Duhon, organist, will sing "Amazing Grace", "Psalm 27", "His Eye is on the Sparrow", "I Will Never Forget You" and "On Eagles'' Wings". Hilda Duhon was born on January 4, 1921 in the Judice, Louisiana community and lived in Lafayette her entire life. She attended Judice High School and Spencer Business College. She was a kind, loving generous person who always had a smile and was ready to give you a hug. She will be remembered for her hand made quilts, which she donated for many fundraisers. Mrs. Duhon worked for General Office Supply, White System Finance and Termplan, for over 33 years until her retirement. She then went on to volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes, UMC and Hospice of Acadiana with over 23,000 volunteer hours. She was honored with numerous awards including the Carolyn Patin Award for outstanding volunteer work for Hospice of Acadiana, the Morgan Chase outstanding volunteer Award, the Workman of America Award and the Bishop''s Charity Ball volunteer Award. She was a member of St. Mary''s Catholic Church, the St. Mary Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters for over 25 years. She is survived by her only son, Kurt Patrick Duhon and his wife Debbie; and her only granddaughter, April Dawn Duhon. She is also survived by two brothers, Dudley Earl Duhon and his wife, Dorothy and Gus Duhon; and several nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her late husband of 61 years, Wilkin Duhon; her parents, Victoran and Leonie Duhon; two sisters, Grace Duhon and Lillie D. Mouton; one brother, Wilven C. (Bill) Duhon; two nephews, Hebert Duhon and Larry Mouton; one great niece, Donna Desormeaux Stelly; and her daughter-in-law, Denise Landry Duhon. The family would like to thank Dr. John Mickey and staff, Dr. Ronald Jenkins and staff, Dr. Peter Vizzi and staff, Lisa Payton, the staff of OSPT physical therapy and the wonderful staff and volunteers of Hospice of Acadiana for all of their love and support. They would also like to thank the Doctors and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and the staff of Garden View Assisted Living. Pallbearers will be Jesse Mouton, Ted Duhon, Jimmy Duhon, Darrell Dronet, Dennis Desormeaux, Guy Duhon and Charles Bourque, Jr. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Thursday from 8:00 AM until the time of service.
