The Life of George Bourliea

New Iberia – Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 18, 2013, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for George Bourliea, 64, who died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. Deacon Theo Landry will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 3:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. A native of Franklin, Mr. Bourliea was born on February 25, 1948, and was a 1966 graduate of Centerville High School. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War, receiving several medals and awards including the Bronze Star, an Oak Leaf Cluster for valor, the Vietnam service medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation Badges, Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, First Class Unit Citation Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Air Medal. Mr. Bourliea worked in the oilfield for 30 years prior to becoming disabled with cancer caused by exposure to agent orange, and was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Beulah Mae Savoie Bourliea of New Iberia; son, Kevin John Bourliea and wife Latoya of Carencro; daughter, Angela Marie Bourliea of Carencro; step son, Allen Hebert of Lydia; step daughters, Wanda Hebert Barras and husband Jimmy of Bayou Vista, Barbara Hebert Pichoff and husband John of Lydia, Jennifer Myers Bodoin and husband Shawn of Youngsville, Peggy Myers Milliman and husband Marvin of New Iberia; brothers, Fredrick Bourliea and wife Joyce of Hammond, Wilbert Bourliea and wife Beatrice of Franklin; sisters, Theresa Simoneaux and husband Melvin of Charenton, Eunice Ransonet of Duson, Rita Guillot and husband Donald of Franklin, Betty Broussard and husband Ray of Franklin; 11 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Pierre Bourliea and Emily Desormeaux Bourliea; son, George Paul Bourliea; sister, Amy Boudreaux; brothers, Wallace Bourliea, Jr., Louis Paul Bourliea, and James Bourliea. Pallbearers will be Mark Simoneaux, Kevin John Bourliea, Wilbert Bourliea, Jr., Scott Broussard, Donnie Broussard, and Fredrick ''Johnny'' Bourliea, Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Fredrick Bourliea, Sr., and Wilbert Bourliea, Sr. Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331, is in charge of arrangements.
