The Life of Hugh Joseph Billeaud Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard for Hugh J. Billeaud, Jr., 81, who died on Monday, December 17, 2012, at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Louis J. Richard, Pastor, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Annie Langlinais and Madeline Langlinais. Giftbearers will be Mr. Billeaud''s children. Mrs. Jodi M. Bollich, organist and soloist, accompanied by Yang Yang Li, violinist, will sing "Pie Jesu", "Shepherd Me O God", "Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus", "Amazing Grace", "In Paradisum" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" for the services. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Billeaud Langlinais and her husband Daniel of Lafayette; two sons, Hugh Joseph Billeaud, III and his partner Edward Fremin of New Iberia and Stephen Mark Billeaud and his wife Jennifer of Houston; one step-son, Todd Payton Spears and his wife Bobbi of Bastrop; and five grandchildren, Annie Langlinais, Michael Langlinais, Madeline Langlinais, Emma Billeaud and Sarah Billeaud. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Joseph Billeaud, Sr. and Emma Lou Broussard Billeaud; one brother, Robert P. Billeaud, Sr.; one sister, Margaret Joyce Billeaud; his first wife, Beverly Patricia Craven Billeaud; and his second wife, Kathleen "Tweetie" Spears Billeaud. A native of Broussard and a resident of Lafayette since 1947, Hugh Billeaud, Jr. was affectionately known by his grandchildren as "Popeye". He graduated from St. Cecilia, Cathedral High School and SLI (now ULL) in Petroleum Geology. He worked in the oil industry all of his life, having worked for Superior Oil, Directional Engineers, Schlumberger and retired from COBB Directional. Mr. Billeaud was a member of the Krewe of Gabriel and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a very generous man, enjoyed gardening and going to the beach. Hugh Billeaud, Jr. will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Michael Langlinais, Todd Spears, Chuck Billeaud, Daniel Landry, III, Edward Fremin and Mike Battle. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
