Mrs. Felscher passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday November 13, 2012 in Lafayette, LA surrounded by her loved ones and faithful caregivers. She was born on March 23, 1922 in Oklahoma City, OK. In 1949 she and Arthur Felscher married and in 1955 built their home here in Lafayette, LA. After retiring from Conoco Oil after many years, Joan blessed the whole community with her many talents. She was a recognized artist of the Acadian landscape, a dedicated vocalist with the St. Pius X Choir, and an enthusiastic fisherwoman and hostess at their camp at Cypremort Point and entertained many friends at home. Joan organized “The Clowns Troupe”, enlisting friends and family, who were in great demand with their skits and songs to the delight of all the area nursing home residents. She was an outspoken defender of the unborn, and her poem, Ode to the Unborn, was read on the National Right to Life radio program. Her poetic talent culminated in the stories of Pierre and Alcide, in a self-illustrated book she always meant to have published.”Grannie” was a devoted grandmother who cherished time spent with her grandchildren, always encouraging their own talents. She was a passionate lover of all things living, from adopting the wild creatures in the backyard pond, to hand-raising litters of Doberman Pinschers. Her Garden Room and patio were showplaces of her green thumb, always overflowing with plants and multitudes of flowers. Survivors include her grandchildren, Falon Cherie’ Felscher of Houston, TX and Arthur Bolton Felscher of Lafayette, LA, her stepdaughter Carol Holt and husband Jack of Boerne, TX, their two sons, Aden of Denver, CO and Jonathan and wife Meredith, and grandson Jackson Holt of Austin, TX. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Arthur J. and her son Arthur H. “Skip” Felscher, her parents, Henry Hutchinson and Clara Schmithausler Hutchinson and her sister Annette Hutchinson. Even so, she was a lady of strong faith and trust in God. When her husband and their only son died within 10 hours of each other, she wrapped herself in her faith, in family, and friends. To all who knew her, she was a remarkable example of strength and spiritual endurance. Serving as pallbearers will be Bolton Felscher, Darrel Hebert, Tim Paradine, Jack Holt, Walter Castelblanco, Jr. and Walter Castelblanco, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Leonpacher, Dr. Harold Jacobs, Dr. Doug Sagrera and Albert Latiolais.
