The Life of Sue Smith

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Sue H. Smith, 88, who passed away on November 11, 2012 at St. Anne''s Residence in Miami, Florida. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery, following the funeral service. Sue was a long time resident of Lafayette, moving here after her marriage to J. Soule Smith in 1950. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Murray Hall and the former Dena Boucher, of Tyler, Texas. After graduating high school, Sue went to work for the Weather Service, serving at several air stations across Texas, and finally in Lake Charles, LA, where she met the love of her live, Soule Smith. With two small children, Sue went back to school to get her undergraduate degree at USL in 1962. She taught 4th grade at LaRosen and Plantation Elementary schools for 26 years, touching numerous lives, and in many cases, teaching several generations of one family. Her belief in education was strong, and in 1969, she went back to school to get her Master’s Degree. Upon retiring, she enjoyed traveling with Soule and spending time with friends, her children and grandchildren. After Soule’s death, she moved to Miami to be closer to her daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Smith and her domestic partner, Gloria Tangarife; her son, Tim Smith of New Orleans, LA; two granddaughters, Lisa Smith and Renee Smith, and one sister, Dixie H. Black of Honey Grove, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband; James Soule Smith. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 1:00 pm until time of services. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
