The Life of Wayne P Melancon

"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" 2 Cor 5:8. Wayne Melancon, age 65, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at his residence in Youngsville after a short battle with liver cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor George Lewellyn, of Calvary Chapel, will conduct the funeral services. Wayne is survived by his wife and best friend of 43 years, Juanita Faye Trahan Melancon of Youngsville; their daughter, Tonya Rae Richard, and her husband Chad Donald Richard and their eight children, Austin Michael, Parker Myles, Sydney Claire, Shelby Isabella, Savannah Rose, Samuel Isaac, Ava Elise and Sophia Faye Richard, all of Lafayette; their son, Keith Allen Melancon and his wife Heather Diane Haverstock of Friendship, Maryland and their five children, Aynsley Brie, Ramsey Grace, Kegan Asher, Kelsey Quinn and Quentin Reed Melancon, all of Friendship, Maryland; their adoptive daughter Maria del Carmen Fonseca Mars and her husband Matthew Nicholas Mars from Rocky River, Ohio; their only son Christopher Fonseca Mars and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Mars, and their two children, Christopher Mateo Mars and Gianna del Carmen Mars. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Melancon; maternal grandparents, Gaston and Emirite Verret Melancon. Wayne was born on April 16, 1947 in Youngsville and was "Born Again" March 1980. He lived his early childhood in Youngsville. Wayne attended Youngsville High School, graduating in 1965, then Louisiana State University graduating in 1970 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. After spending two years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, he returned to Tenneco Oil Company in Houston, Texas. He concluded his forty years of work in the oil field with Frank's Casing Crew in Lafayette. He was a wonderful family man, a very kind and gentle person and will be sincerely missed by family and friends. Two other favorite scriptures of Wayne are "There is a way which seems right unto man, but its end is death" Proverbs 14:12. "All our good works are as filthy rags before the Lord" Isaiah 64:6. These two scriptures helped keep Wayne on the "straight and narrow" during his walk with his Lord Jesus the last thirty plus years. Pallbearers will be Keith Melancon, Chad Richard, Austin Richard, Parker Richard, Christopher Mars and Randy McLaclan. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Trahan, Matthew Mars, Keegan Melancon, Samuel Richard, Quentin Melancon and Robert Gilbert. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503. The Melancon family expresses their thanks for all of the prayers that have gone forth for the entire family.
