The Life of Weldon Joseph Dufrene Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Weldon J. Dufrene, Sr. age 75, who died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 12:00 PM in Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Steve LeBlanc, Pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Ryan Benoit and Melinda Mouton Dufrene. Giftbearers will be Jeanette Guidry and Deanna Guillot. Eulogist will be Robby Briley. Karen Melancon, vocalist, accompanied on the organ by Kevin Martin, will sing for the services. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Mildred Richard Dufrene of Lafayette; one son, Weldon "Joey" Dufrene, Sr. and his wife Melinda; two daughters, Donna Briley and her husband Chuck and Connie Benoit and her husband Troy, all of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Robby Briley and his wife Kelly, Anthony Benoit, Ryan Benoit, Shelby Dufrene, Alexis Dufrene and Christian Dufrene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon Noel Dufrene, a native of Vachery, Louisiana and the former Della Chaisson, a native of LaRose, Louisiana. Mr. Dufrene was born on October 2, 1937 in New Orleans and was a resident of Lafayette for forty years. He was a veteran of military service and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Dufrene was a devout member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and also a member of the RCIA program. He was greatly involved with the Cursillo movement. Mr. Dufrene loved fishing with his friends. Pallbearers will be Ryan Benoit, Anthony Benoit, Robby Briley, Wayne Richard, Christian Dufrene and Cleve Fontenot. Honorary Pallbearers will be Claude Aubert and Pete Palmer. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass.
