The Life of Lewis Charles Kellogg

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lewis Charles Kellogg who passed away on September 9, 2012. Pastor Kenny Talbot, Jr. of New Beginnings Fellowship Church will officiate the services. Mr. Kellogg was born May 10, 1927 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was the son of Lydney Talley of Catahoula, LA and Charles “Jim” Kellogg originally of St. John, MI. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II. Upon returning to Lafayette in 1948, Mr. Kellogg attended SLI and then began a lengthy career in the oilfield. He was employed by Humble Oil Co. and then by Johnston Testers where he worked for many years and became a District Manager. Deciding to become self-employed, Mr. Kellogg established Dove Well Service, Inc. and Kellogg Tools which he operated until his retirement. While involved in the oil business, he was on Board of Directors of the Workover Contractors Association, was president of the local chapter of Well Service Contractors, held a seat on the National Board of Well Service Contractors and was a member of the Drilling Contractors Association. Not being willing to remain in retirement, Mr. Kellogg pursued his insurance licensing and became an agent in the areas of Health, Property and Casualty Insurance. He was a member of the Board of Directors for United General Insurance Company and then became an agent for Stiel Insurance Company and then for ICT Insurance Company, from which he, also, retired. Mr. Kellogg was very involved in the community of Lafayette of which he was extremely proud to be a citizen. As a volunteer of The New Hope Center, he organized and cooked many benefit meals and meals and Bar-B-Qs for the clients. He became very active in senior golfing and interested in the Parks and Recreation system. He was a member of the Lafayette Men’s Golf Association and was President for many years. As such, he was instrumental in organizing the Lafayette Senior Men’s Golf Association and served, also, as their president for many years. Mr. Kellogg was one of the first people to run as a Republican for the Police Jury and continued to be involved in the politics of Lafayette. For many years, he attended every City Council, was involved the Concerned Citizens for Good Government and attended all of those meetings and the high light of his week was being able to express his views and ideas concerning the city government on Talk Show Radio KVOL every Thursday morning. Mr. Kellogg loved his country and he loved to travel. He prided himself on the fact that he had driven in every state in the United States. After retiring, he continued to travel and visited every providence in Canada and every country in Central America to the Panama Canal. Mr. Kellogg joined the Masons in 1950 and was a member of the Blue Lodge Chapter Mr. Kellogg married his high school sweet heart, Virginia Turner, in 1945 and they raised five children in Lafayette. They all attended Lafayette public schools and three of them graduated from USL and one from LSU. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, his four daughters; Debbie Kellogg of Baton Rouge, La, Diana and her husband, Cliff Soward, Dawn and her husband, Ian Kinsella and Dru and her husband, Dennis Talbot, all of Lafayette. He is, also, survived by 11 grandchildren, Brian Hebert (Lori), Aundria Cannon (Marty), Rashelle Rea (Donnie), Natalie Soward, Melanie Tarver, Traci Fisher, Jessica Riddle (Tony), Stephanie Hanks (Kevin), Staci Talbot, Sarah Parham (Kris), and Sheri “Peep Squeak” Talbot, 17 great-grandchildren, and his one sister; Annaise “Nie” Latiolais of Lafayette and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kellogg was preceded in death by his parents, his two sons, Duane Lewis Kellogg and Dirk Charles Kellogg and his two nephews, David Walker and Chuck Walker and his sister Mary Jane Kellogg. Pallbearers will be his three sons-in-law, Cliff Soward, Dennis Talbot and Ian Kinsella, his only grandson, Brian Hebert and Marty Cannon and Kris Parham. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nicky Picard, Buddy Marsiglia, Boring Domingue, Earl Greer, Charly Truesdell, Doug Truesdell, Kevin Hanks, Donnie Rea, and Tony Riddle. The family requests that visitation will be on Tuesday, September 11th from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:00 am to time of services. Interment will be at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. As you can see by the number of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren that surrounded PawPaw Kellogg, that he cherished and enjoyed children, he was pro-babies. In keeping with that love of kids, we are asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to “Maddie’sFootprints.org”. Maddie’s Footprints is a non-profit organization that provides support to families coping with miscarriages, stillbirths or loss of an infant.
