The Life of Elena Duhon

A long time resident of Lafayette, who had been living in Baton Rouge, Mrs. Elena Hebert Duhon, died on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, with her children at her side. She was 90 years old, a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She enjoyed exercising with friends at the Green House in Lafayette, and attending her monthly luncheon and bingo with the 50 Plus Group at the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Those left to celebrate her life include her daughters, Barbara Atchison (husband Fred deceased) of Roseville, CA and Beverly Lyons and her husband Marvin Lea of Baton Rouge; and a son, Herbert John Duhon and his wife Anna Lou of Youngsville. She has one surviving sister, Mrs. Levy Racca; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Hebert and Hazel Hebert, both of Port Arthur, TX; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilven Charles Duhon; her mother and father, Ernest and Helena Hebert; three sisters; and eight brothers. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Darren, Eddie and Greg Duhon; and great-grandsons, Daniel, Hayden and Zachary Fox. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille at 1:00 PM. Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. She will be buried with her husband in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of Ollie Steele Burden Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge for the loving care of Mrs. Duhon, where she lived for the last seven years. Special thanks to her primary nurses, Jo Ann Wyble and Michelle Sibley and her CNAs, Wanda Garnett and Angel Jefferson. Thanks also to the staff of The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge for the care, love and attention they gave her to make her final hours more comfortable.
