The Life of Leon William Day

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Leon W. Day, age 87, who died on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Deacon Cody Miller with St. Joseph Catholic Church of Milton will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Nanette Bell. Karen Broussard, organist, will sing for the services, "On Eagles'' Wings", "The Old Rugged Cross", and "Amazing Grace". Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Beryl Guillory Day of Lafayette; two daughters, Terri Covington and her husband, Noel of Lafayette and Susie Girouard and her husband, Raymond of Broussard; nine grandchildren, Sean Covington, Kelly Ford, Gretchen Prindel, Michael Hynson, Coby Girouard, Beau Forbes, Chris Hynson, Amy Wise and Mark Girouard; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Freda Halton of Cloverdale, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Day and the former, Pearl Offenbacker; three children, Paul Randall Day, Kim Day Hynson, and Carla Day Forbes; two sisters, Kathleen Louise Herron and Barbara L. Fraizer; his brothers, Kenneth Harvey Day, Elbert D. Day, Leo Fred Day, Harold R. Day, Estel Wilbur Day, Walter Glen Day and Gordon E. Day. Mr. Day was born on Thursday, March 26, 1925 in Owen County, Indiana and was a resident of Lafayette for many years. He was a loving and devoted husband, dedicated father and grandfather, great grandfather, and brother and will be dearly missed. He was a member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette. Mr. Day was founder and owner of Lafayette Trim Service. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and especially loved spending time with his family. Mr. Day was a Mason and a longtime member of the Elk Lodge. Pallbearers will be Raymond Girouard, Coby Girouard, Mark Girouard, Justin Prindel, Tobey Ford, Daren Meyers, and Bill LaBorde. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN location on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 8:00 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Day''s name to the American Diabetes Association, 9405 Interline Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809. Special thanks to Dr. Holden and his staff at Lafayette General Medical Center and to Dr. Glenn Mire. Also, the nurses and CNA''s on Pine neighborhood at River Oaks for their dedicated and compassionate care and also the Therapy Center.
