The Life of Roy Oliver Larson

Funeral Services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Roy Oliver Larson, 87, who passed away on May 20, 2012 at 12:20PM. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Pastor of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Mr. Larson, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Herman Larson and the former Armead Carline both of Bayou Chene, Louisiana. He was a member of St. Jules Church. Roy taught at Bayou Chene School in the 1940's. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, earning four bronze stars. He graduated from SLI in Lafayette, attended Tulane University, and received his Masters of Education Degree from LSU. He was an employment counselor and tax auditor for the State of Louisiana retiring in 1986. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maudred Savoy Larson of Lafayette, LA; two daughters, Cheryl Martin of Lafayette, LA, and Christine Price and husband Scott of Lafayette, LA; two sons, David Larson and wife Kelly of Houston, TX, and Mike Larson and wife Kathleen of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Monet McCarthy, Gus Martin, Melissa Delahoussaye, Greg Martin, Matt Martin, Michael Larson, Jr., and Kyle Price; three great grandchildren, Adam McCarthy, Joe and Angelle Delahoussaye; four sisters, Lila Larson Curry, Velma Larson, Alcion Larson Sandefur, and Judy Larson Schouest; and six brothers, Eldridge Larson, Curtis Larson, Larry Larson, Ronald Larson, Huey Larson and Gary Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Darlene Larson, and one brother H. J. Larson. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Tuesday evening. Pallbearers will be Gus Martin, Greg Martin, Matt Martin, Michael Larson, Jr., Kyle Price, and Randy McCarthy. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mr. Larson to the American Heart Association. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
