The Life of Elton Gray Wade Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 3, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Elton Gray Wade, Jr., 86, who passed away on May 1, 2012 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services. Entombment will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Wade, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Elton Gray Wade, Sr. and the former Lurline Roane. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette. He was a member of the Lafayette Concert Band and played the French horn. He retired from Tennessee Gas Transmission after 35 years of service with them. Elton was a United States Navy veteran serving on the USS Remy during WWII. He is survived by one niece, Carol Wartenberg and husband Gerald of Tallahassee, FL; one nephew, Charles Curry and wife Mary of Charlotte, NC as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Wade, and one sister, Evelyn Kiper. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 12:00 pm until the time of service in Lafayette. Pallbearers will be Jay Kimbrough, Justin Kaminsky, Richard Breaux, Jim Garber, Rick McMurray and Gerald Guilbeaux. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made either to the Lafayette Concert Band, 3600 West Congress St., Lafayette, LA, 70506 or to La Belle Maison Senior Center of Broussard, 203 E. 2nd St., Broussard, LA, 70518. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
