The Life of Margaret Rogers

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Grace Presbyterian Church for Margaret "Peggy" French Rogers, 87, who passed away peacefully on April 23, 2012 at 8:30 am at her residence surrounded by her family. Reverend John Wamsley, Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Peggy was born in Minden, Louisiana on Jan 11, 1925 to Lillian and Rodney French. She had one brother, Rodney French, Jr. She attended elementary and high school in Minden where she was an extremely active and very popular student. Peggy went on to attend Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches, now Northwestern State University. Peggy met the love of her life, Frank C. "Pinkie" Rogers, Sr., at the Zephyr Room, a popular Shreveport Supper Club. They were married on July 1, 1945. Upon relocating to Lafayette, Peggy took pleasure in her role as a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her family and her home. A devout Christian, Peggy taught Sunday School at First Methodist Church for many years. Another activity that she dearly loved was her participation in The P.E.O. Sisterhood since joining in 1952. Peggy developed a lifelong love of miniature treasures and intricate dollhouses. She and Pinkie frequently traveled the globe seeking the perfect addition to her collections. Her special love was collecting antique porcelain child sized tea sets, each one carefully sought out, researched, and truly cherished. She is survived by one daughter, Melanie Rogers McKenzie and husband Michael of Lafayette; one son, Frank C. Rogers, Jr.; four grandchildren, Kelly Van Eaton and his son, Omar; Miranda Van Eaton Dolch and husband Matthew all of Chicago, IL, Matthew McKenzie and wife Carrie of New York City, NY, and Megan McKenzie of New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank C. Rogers, Sr., one daughter, Gail Rogers Caldwell, and one brother Rodney French. The family would like give a special heartfelt thank you to her loving and devoted caregivers: Alma Broussard, Mary Thibodeaux, Ruby Melancon, and Sue Bailey; her physician, Dr. Bradley Chastant, Jr., and Hospice of Acadiana. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Wednesday at Grace Presbyterian Church from 12:00 pm until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Mrs. Rogers to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Ste 200, Lafayette, LA 70503. Pallbearers will be Kelly Van Eaton, Matt McKenzie, Don Rogers, Stuart Clark, IV, Robert Francez, and Patrick McCarthy. Honorary pallbearers will be Byron Begneaud, Percy Bernard, George Crain, Jr., Claude Patin, and Bill Felker. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
