After a long, beautiful life, filled with more sunshine than rain, the Lord has called Kathalyn Ann "Kay" O'Connor Bullen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, home to rest in eternal peace in his loving embrace. Kay was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on November 12, 1936, to James Lawrence O'Connor and Leona Catherine Dixon. She was raised in the Irish Channel district of New Orleans with her cousin, Raymond J. Dixon, Jr., whom she loved as a brother. She was a graduate of Redemptorist High School, and she attended Loyola University of New Orleans, until she met and married the love of her life, William Ross Bullen, Jr., to whom she was married for forty-eight years, and who predeceased her in 2008. Together, they raised four children, Chris, Billy, Jimbo and Anne, who have cherished childhood memories of their mother, who drove them to school in her nightgown, served delicious, home-cooked meals every night, sat patiently with them until all hours as they finished their homework assignments, and took them to the Town House pool from sun up to sun down during the long, hot summer months. A Homemaker by profession, she created a warm, loving home, and opened it to friends and neighbors, hosting Sunday night steak dinners, impromptu kitchen table gatherings and informal holiday dinners, resulting in a large "extended family" that still shares a deep connection today. She dearly loved her three daughters-in-law, Karen Brownlee Bullen, with whom she enjoyed numerous road trips, antiquing and shopping; Kimberly Larrison Bullen, with whom she shared the pleasure of cooking; and Loralee Lindquist Bullen, with whom she spent hours visiting on the telephone; and her son-in-law, Andres Zornosa, whose sense of humor delighted her. In her later life, doting on her grandchildren, Braden, Caty, Josh, Hannah, Morgan, Ethan, Sydney, Adriana and Quinn, brought her great joy. Kay was an active volunteer in the Lafayette community. She served as Room Mother for her children's classes, Den Mother for her sons' cub scout den, and Troup Leader for her daughter's brownie and girl scout troop. She was a Member of En Avant, a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Lafayette, and a past President of the Auxiliary of the Lafayette Association of Professional Landmen. She also served several decades as a volunteer on the Maids' Committee of the Lafayette Townhouse Krewe of the Troubadours. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to their brother, Jim and his wife, Kim, and to family friend, Ms. Georgia Alexander, for caring for their mother so lovingly during her declining years and allowing her to maintain her independence. Pallbearers will be Billy Bullen, Braden Bullen, Josh Bullen, Andres Zornosa, Ray Dixon and Peter Hoppe. Honorary Pallbearers are Dennis Gardner and Jim Larrison, M.D. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, LA, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
