The Life of Lois Mayeux

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 6, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lois Cailleteau Mayeux, 93, who passed away on February 3, 2012 at 7:50 am at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home. Reverend Kevin Bordelon, Associate Pastor of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Lois Mayeux was a resident of Lafayette, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cailleteau of Marksville, LA. She was a graduate of Marksville High School and held an associate degree in education from SLI. She was employed by Mayeux Wholesale Grocery and Walgreens as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and caring for her home. She especially loved spending summer vacations with her children and grandchildren in Destin, Florida. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Mayeux Johnson and her husband Larry of Carencro. Two sons, David Mayeux of Lafayette and Daniel Mayeux and his wife Cherryl of Lafayette. Three granddaughters, Cherie Johnson Hebert and her husband Jimmy of Lafayette, Jill Johnson of Lafayette and MaryBeth Daigle of Austin, Texas. One grandson, Johnny Johnson and his wife Tiffany of Belle Chasse, LA. Three great granddaughters, Jamie Hebert, Maci Moreau and Abby Johnson. Two great grandsons, Jacob Gauthier, wife Whitney and Reese Johnson. One great, great grandson, John Gray Gauthier. Her club affiliations were Mr. Carmel PTA, Cathedral PTA, Catholic Daughters Court Immaculata and Ladies Altar Society of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. She was a charter member of the Lafayette Mental Health Association where she held various offices and helped to bring awareness to the needs of the mentally ill in the community. In her retirement years she devoted her time to helping with fundraising and socials at Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel at ULL. She also was active with the Ladies Auxillary of the De La Salle Christian Brothers and the March of Dimes. She was very interested in politics and served for many years as Commissioner in Charge of her district for elections. She was preceded in death by her husband Lance James Mayeux and son, Ronald James Mayeux of Lafayette. Her father, Arthur Cailleteau and her mother, Florence Laborde Cailleteau of Marksville, LA. Her sisters, Rita Rosenhauer of Houston, Texas and Drucie Glasscock of Pineville, LA. Three brothers, Dr. Otis Cailleteau of Shreveport, LA, Dr. Frank Cailleteau of Plaquemine, LA and Preston Cailleteau of Marksville, LA. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Monday, February 6, 2012 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. A rosary will be recited at the funeral home Monday at 11:30 am. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Hector Robles, the staff at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas and to the Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Opelousas; Hospice nurse Lou Fuselier and Elaine Leger, Sister Mary and Sister Stephanie of the Marianites of Holy Cross; and to Idilsa (BiBi) Rodriguez who was her loving caregiver for the past two years.
