The Life of Lilia Lewis Perkins

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. on February 3, 2012 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Lilia Lewis Gayle Perkins, who passed away peacefully at her home on January 30, 2012 at the age of 90 years young. Deacon Frank Cormier will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery at 2111 W Pinhook Rd. Mrs. Perkins was born in Iota, LA, on March 26, 1921 and later in her life moved with her husband and daughter to Lafayette and remained there for 65 years. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Gayle Rush; son, Paul Douglas Perkins Jr.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul Douglas Perkins Sr.; her parents, Thomas Ruark Gayle and Bonnie Lewis Gayle; brother, Thomas Ruark Gayle III and sister, Mary Alice Gayle. Mrs. Perkins was a fun loving, caring, generous person who had a way of making her family feel loved and her friends feel like family. She grew up during the depression and had a very keen perspective of life in general. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA. To earn her tuition she helped foreign students learn English. After marrying her long time love she became a devoted housewife and mother. In her later years she enjoyed eating out at her favorite restaurants with her family and friends, shopping with her daughter and participating in family cookouts at home. It was always about family and friends. Special thanks to Rose Lilly, Jo Doucet, Tammy Brooks, Emma Jenkins and Tartiana Harrison from Hospice of Acadiana and all of the family and friends who were there in her time of need. Pallbearers will be Brian Rush, David Rush, Tim Rush, David Elston, Robert Ellender, and Stephen Sonnier. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Rush, Kevin Elston and Chance Thibodeaux. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm and on Friday, February 3, 2012 9:00 am until the time of service. A Rosary will held at 6:00 pm by Norris and Patsy Thibodeaux. Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
