The Life of Leo Pierre Duhon

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edmond Catholic Church for Leo P. Duhon, 84, who died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at 4:50 p.m. at his residence surrounded by his family. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the Funeral Services. Ron Moreau, soloist, accompanied on the organ by Phyllis Simar, will sing for the service. Eucharistic ministers will be Gail Breaux and James Nichols and the readings will be offered by Paul Duhon and Billie Nichols. His three daughters-in-law will serve as the giftbearers. Leo was born in Maurice, La. on November 7, 1924 and lived in Lafayette for 69 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country honorably in World War II. Leo retired from the Lafayette Parish School Board Sales Tax Division after 25 years of service. Prior to the School Board, he worked for Merchants Wholesale Grocery Company for 20 years. He also was a long-time member of Teurlings Catholic High School Booster Club in which he was a devoted supporter. Leo will best be remembered by his family as a loving, gentle man who was devoted to his wife and children and adored all of his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lucille David Duhon, seven children, Mona Johnson and her husband, Jerry; David Duhon and his wife, Nancy; Daniel Duhon and his wife, Andree'; Charlie Duhon and his wife, Margaret; Sylvia Bourgeois and her husband, Kenneth; Maria West and her husband, Bob; and Rose Duhon; sixteen grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Macha, and her husband Brad; Mark Johnson, Anna and Alyce Duhon, Gregory, Jeffery, Matthew, Jonathan, and Laura Duhon, Chris, Shane, and Tim Duhon, Addie and Adam Bourgeois, Jordan and Madison West; three great grandchildren, Aidan Serio, Isabella and Carter Leo Macha. He is also survived by one sister, Louise D. Nichols; one brother-in-law, Russell David and his wife, Lurline; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Carmelite Duhon; two sisters, Ona Mhire and May Trahan; and six brothers, Beo, Ray, Roy, Oce, Lee, and Andrew Ned Duhon. A Rosary will be prayed Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service. Pallbearers will be his three sons and three sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The Duhon family extends their heartfelt appreciation to their neighbors John, Elena, and Ryan O'Banion, Michael, Karen, and Sayra Touchet, and Mike and Diane Hulin for their kindness and support.
