The Life of Lillie Martha Broussard

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010, at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Martha "Tot" Broussard, 90, who passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2010, surrounded by her family. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Ross Forman, Meaghan Austin and Nicholas Forman. Lectors will be Sara Jones and Ashlinn Silvestrini. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, will sing "The Old Rugged Cross", "Amazing Grace", "J'irai la voir un jour" and "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" for the services. Survivors include her two daughters, Marion Seemann and her husband Fred and Leah Guilbeaux and her husband Malcolm; thirteen grandchildren, Harriet Ann Silvestrini, Brenda Silvestrini, Frankie Silvestrini, Rosa Silvestrini, José Silvestrini, Marty Flowers, Chris Guilbeaux, Bonnie Austin, Windy Fitzgerald, Rose Anne Seemann, Jeannine Seemann, Donna Seemann Forman and Robin Seemann; twenty-six great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Broussard; one son, Ronnie Broussard; one daughter, Harriet Morvant; her parents, Edouard and Catherine Taberlet Parent; one great great granddaughter, Micaela Jones; four brothers; and five sisters. Tot, as she was most affectionately known, was born in Youngsville, but lived most of her life in Lafayette. She and her husband owned and operated Bee's Grocery in the "Saints Streets" for many years after acquiring it from Mr. Broussard's family. She loved visiting with all of the neighbors in the store, most of them being family, and to many people, she was known as "Miss Bee". She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved jokes and had a passion for playing cards. She truly lived her life with and for her family. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her. Pallbearers will be Malcolm Guilbeaux, Fred Seemann, Chris Guilbeaux, Frankie Silvestrini, José Silvestrini, Dirk Forman and Mike Flowers. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed by Sister Teresa Margaret Toups on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Hospice of Acadiana, especially Jo Doucet and her caregiver, Danette Toney, who became family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Martha Broussard's name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
