The Life of Lucille Poche

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Lucille Thibodeaux Poché, 88, who passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2011 at her residence in Lafayette surrounded by her family.

Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be granddaughter, Kristi Castille, great grandson, Zackary Crain, and great granddaughter Emily Poché. Giftbearers will be her great grandchildren, Zackary Crain, Emily Poché, Danny Poché, Hayden Hornback and Tanner Hornback. Jodi Bollich, vocalist, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist and Tommy Benoit, violinist, will perform for the services.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Poché Broussard and her husband, Tony of Carencro and Carolyn Poché Castille and her husband, Alfred of Church Point; three sons, Jim Poché and his wife, Linda of Lafayette, Tom Poché and his wife, Brenda of Lafayette and Robert Poché and his wife, Sharon of Roswell, GA.; thirteen grandchildren, Bryant Poché, Paula Poché Hornback, Whitney Poché Gaines, Michal Poché Jones, Lori Debaillon Crain, René Debaillon, Anthony Broussard, Jake Broussard, Nick Broussard, Kelly Poché, Brett Poché, Jacob Castille and Kristi Castille; eleven great grandchildren; and one sister, Laurence Thibodeaux Cameron and her husband, Norman.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Merrill J. Poché; her parents, Robert and Agnes Hachet Thibodeaux; and one brother, Robert Thibodeaux.

A native of Parks, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for over 63 years, Mrs. Poché (Mom) was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She attended St. Bernard High School in Breaux Bridge where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class. She went on to attend SLI (now ULL) where she graduated with a B.A. degree in upper elementary education. Mrs. Poché worked as a schoolteacher for the St. Martin and Lafayette Parish School System for over 30 years before her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed life, loved to paint and cherished her time with family and friends. Mom will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her including her faithful cat, Slick (Minew).

Mom carried on a tradition started by her mother, stressing the importance of education, church and family. She was devoted to her interest in piano and the arts especially of oil paintings of cajun landscapes and character settings.

A Rosary will be recited by Paula Hornback on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Location.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Bryant Poché, Paula Hornback, Whitney Poché Gaines, Michal Poché Jones, Lori Debaillon Crain, René Debaillon, Kelly Poché, Brett Poché, Jacob Castille and Kristi Castille. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony, Jake and Nick Broussard

The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 7:30 AM until time of services.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mrs. Poché''s name to the Cathedral Carmel Foundation, 848 St. John Street, Lafayette, LA. 70501.

The Poché family would like to express their gratitude for the care and support from the staff of Heart of Hospice and also her caregivers, Rudelle, Jackie, Sherry and Judy.
