The Life of Merrill Joseph Poche

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist for Merrill Joseph Poché, 86, who passed away peacefully on Friday, June 11, 2010 at Courtyard Manor in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include his beloved wife, Lucille Thibodeaux Poché; two daughters, Judy Poché Broussard and her husband, Tony of Carencro and Carolyn Poché Castille and her husband, Alfred of Church Point; three sons, Jim Poché and his wife, Linda of Lafayette, Tom Poché and his wife, Brenda of Lafayette and Robert Poché and his wife, Sharon of Roswell, GA.; thirteen grandchildren, Bryant Poché, Paula Poché Hornback, Whitney Poché Gaines, Michal Poché Jones, Lori Debaillon Crain, René Debaillon, Anthony Broussard, Jake Broussard, Nick Broussard, Kelly Poché, Brett Poché, Jacob Castille and Kristi Castille; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce P. Bernard of Orange, TX. and Betty P. Sharon of Baton Rouge.He was preceded in death by his parents, Golden Joseph and Lula Hollier Poché.A native of Breaux Bridge and resident of Lafayette for the last 63 years, "Pop" loved and was dedicated to his family and wife of 67 years, was an avid fisherman all of his life and was highly respected in the construction industry as a pioneer of commercial air conditioning in Lafayette. He was a member of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific. Mr. Poché and his family are longtime supporters of  Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and school.  He enjoyed life and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him including his faithful cat, Slick (Minew).Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Bryant Poché, Paula Hornback, Whitney Poché Gaines, Michal Poché Jones, Lori Debaillon Crain, René Debaillon, Kelly Poché, Brett Poché, Jacob Castille and Kristi Castille. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony, Jake and Nick Broussard. The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday, June 14, 2010 from  7:00 AM until time of services at Martin & Castille''s Downtown Location.In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the Cathedral Carmel Foundation, 848 St. John Street, Lafayette, LA 70501.  Martin & Castille - 330 St. Landry Street, Lafayette 337-234-2311
