The Life of Joseph Dale Dugas

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9, 2007, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Joseph Dale Dugas, 76, who passed away peacefully on November 6, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Reverend Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lafayette, Celebrant, will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Kelly Dugas and Heather Dugas. Lectors will be Denise Dugas and Joycelyn Cortese. Jodi Bollich, soloist, accompanied by Tom Neil, organist, will sing "Amazing Grace", "Be Not Afraid", "On Eagle''s Wings" and "The Lord''s Prayer" for the services. Survivors include one daughter, Norma K. Dugas; two sons, David K. Dugas and his wife Judy and Kenneth R. Dugas and his wife Denise; seven grandchildren, Ryan Dugas, Christopher Dugas, Eric Dugas, Kelly Dugas, Luke Dugas and his wife Marcie, P.F.C. Cory Dugas, USMC and Heather Dugas; and one great grandchild, Allison R. Dugas.He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sadie LeBlanc Dugas; and his beloved wife of 50 years, Melva Ann Thibeaux Dugas.A native of Scott and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Dale graduated from Scott High School in 1948, attended S.L.I. (Now ULL) and The University of Mississippi, where he graduated from Pharmacy school in 1953. He earned a lifetime membership in the Louisiana Pharmaceutical Association and served as a regional chairman in 1978. Mr. Dugas owned South College Pharmacy for many years, then worked at Bechet''s Pharmacy for several years before going to Lafayette General Medical Center and retiring there after 18 years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Medical Corp. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. Dale was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him.Pallbearers will be Ryan Dugas, Christopher Dugas, Eric Dugas, Luke Dugas, Stephen Huter and Jack Boudreaux.Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Lee Landry, Malcolm Lacy, Willard Chaisson, P.F.C. Cory Dugas, USMC (currently serving in Iraq), Dallas Hebert and Floyd Begnaud.A Rosary will be prayed by Reverend F. Hampton Davis on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 7:15 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM and on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
