The Life of Joan Ellen Fournet

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, May 12, 2008, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Lafayette, Louisiana, for Joan Ellen McClelland Fournet, who passed away peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2008, at her home in Lafayette, at the age of 74. Interment will take place at Lafayette Memorial Park in Lafayette. Reverend Michael Russo will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. The Most Reverend Glen Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles, will be in attendance. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert Louis Fournet; three sons, J Jacques Fournet II, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Robert McClelland Fournet of Hemphill, Texas, Henri Labbe' Fournet and his wife, Tara Vicknair Fournet, of Granby, Colorado; one sister, Jane McClelland Cobb and her husband, Archie Cobb, of Milton, Louisiana; one brother, Don Albert McClelland and his wife, Ellen McClelland, of Houston, Texas; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews. Joanie was preceded in death by her parents, William R. and Hazel Marie Guidry McClelland, Sr., brother, William R. McClelland, Jr., brother, Jack A. McClelland, father and mother-in-law, Jean Jacques and Aurore Ann Labbe' Fournet. Joanie was born in Crowley, Louisiana, graduated from Crowley High School, attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now UL Lafayette. She was an exceptional employee of Warren Petroleum Company, Gulf Oil Corporation, J. Ray McDermott & Company, and The Superior Oil Company. She joined her husband in 1972 in the formation of The Bob Fournet Company. Joanie was an accomplished bridge player, having attained life master in duplicate bridge. She was a member of Acadiana Duplicate Bridge Club. Joanie’s special joys in life were her family, her friends, and her career. She loved traveling with her husband and friends, playing at the casinos, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and reading. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Linda Arceneaux, Dr. Paulette Blanchet, Dr. Victoria Panelli, Rebecca Donahoe, NP, and the staff of Acadiana Medical Oncology, and the staff of physicians, nurses, and staff of Hospice of Acadiana for providing loving care and comfort. The family requests that visitation be observed Sunday from 4pm until 9pm at Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette, with a rosary at 6pm, and Monday, from 8am until time of service. Pallbearers will be Joanie’s sons, J. Jacques Fournet II, Robert McClelland Fournet, Henri Labbe' Fournet, and Stephan A. Comeaux, James F. Comeaux, Marc McClelland, James F. Comeaux, Michael Donovan, and Jay Alexius. Honorary pallbearers will be James J. Adams, Howard L. Fournet, Thomas R. Fournet, Frederick A. Fournet, Daniel J. Fournet, Thomas J. Daigle, and George N. Starr.
