The Life of Mr. Hillery Thomas Decuir Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Hillery Thomas Decuir, Sr., 87, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Moses Fulton Plauche and Jamie Barnett. Eulogist will be Clint Decuir. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Iris P. Decuir; six children, Clint Thomas Decuir and his wife Debbie, Susan Decuir Barnett and Jimmy Broussard, Harry Fulton Decuir and his wife Juanita, Gil Peter Decuir and his wife Vicky, Hillery Thomas Decuir, Jr. and his wife Lyne and Adam James Decuir and Lynell Babin; six grandchildren, Ben Kristofer Decuir and his wife Cathy, Brian Pickett Decuir and his wife Jennifer, Gary Clifton Barnett and his wife Jamie, Kris Eric Barnett, Matthew Woodward Decuir and Elena Marie Decuir; and seven great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Alfred Decuir, Sr. and Fannie Steele Decuir; two sisters; and one brother.A native of Cottonport and a resident of Lafayette, Hillery Decuir, Sr. proudly served our country as a member of the United States Navy in the Pacific, off the Island of Okinawa. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. Mr. Decuir was active in the Boy Scouts, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He loved cooking outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Pallbearers will be Clint Thomas Decuir, Gil Peter Decuir, Adam James Decuir, Hillery Thomas Decuir Jr., Gary Clifton Barnett, Kris Eric Barnett and Ben Kristofer Decuir.Honorary Pallbearers will be Harry Fulton Decuir, Brian Pickett Decuir , Matthew Woodward Decuir and Christopher "Buddie" Guyette.The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''''s Downtown Lafayette location on Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
