The Life of Berdie Venable
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Berdie Venable, the former Berdie Johnson, 89, who peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery.
Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Tammy Breaux and Edward Fremin. Eulogist will be James Venable. Musical selections for the services will be "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross".
She is survived by one son, Jim Venable and his wife Betty of Lafayette; two daughters, Jeanette V. Romero of Opelousas and Connie V. Hollier of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Ashleigh and Nicholas Hollier of Lafayette and Amanda L. Romero of Erath; and one great grandchild, Dredyn Jenkins. She was preceded in death by a son, Glen J. Venable.
Berdie Venable was originally from the Mire community. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred Johnson and Arthemise Domengeaux Johnson. She worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in the emergency room for sixteen years and for Dr. Heard for fourteen years. She loved music, dancing and spending time with family, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
Pallbearers will be Fred Johnson, Larry Fremin, Orton Besse, Nicholas Hollier, Dickie Hollier and Dale Begnaud.
