The Life of Richard L Porter

Lafayette - - Funeral Services will be conducted for Mr. Richard L. Porter age 63, at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at The First Baptist Church, Broussard. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. at David Funeral Home. Internment will follow at the Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Ric was a native of St. Paul, Minnesota but has been a resident of Broussard for 24 years. He died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Ric Porter graduated from high school in El Paso, Texas in ’62 and served the US Navy in Vietnam from ’69-70. He then went on to graduate from Texas Tech University in ’72 with degrees in Finance, Marketing, and Accounting. He has been the CFO of Royal Service and Rentals for the last 22 years and was proud to be part of a company that he also considered family. He served as the treasurer of the First Baptist Church Broussard for many years in addition to being the treasurer at Milton Baptist Mission. It was his honor to serve the church in many ways but particularly the years he spent working with the youth group. He was a member and past officer of the Oilfield Christian Men’s Association. Ric was a devoted man of God, a loyal husband, amazing father, and friend to many. He will be remembered as a humble man who gave selflessly. He treasured his time being surrounded by friends and family. His joy came from making others happy. Although he has moved on to be with our Lord his legacy of compassion, kindness, giving, humor, and unconditional love will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, friends, family, and even those that only had the privilege of meeting him for a moment. He was truly one of those people who left footprints in our lives forever. Survivors include his wife, Alice Ann Morris Porter of Broussard, three children: Jason Kyle Porter of Shreveport, Kristin Danielle Porter of Broussard, and Lauren Ashley Porter of Broussard. Two grandchildren; Victoria Elizabeth Porter and Evan Blake Porter both of Broussard. One sister Barbara Vasut and her husband Laddie of Damon, TX. His brother-in-law James Roy Morris and his wife Jenisu of Seymour, Texas. Three nephews and two nieces. Mike and Jim Blanks and Margaret Keller-McGrath of Houston, TX. Meagon Morris of Red Oak, TX, and Margot Morris of Dallas, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence Edward Porter and Helen Elizabeth Porter of El Paso, TX. Pallbearers will be Kyle Porter, Doyle Dean, John Kile, John Burke, Jackie Bernard, James Roy Morris, Eric Lord, and Russell Lanclos. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff from Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Southwest Medical Center for their services and compassion in caring for our husband, father, and friend. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions go to the First Baptist Church, Broussard Freedom Fund or a charity of your choice.
