The Life of John Bryan Mouton Jr.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 14, 2006 at a 10:00 AM Service at the Church of the Covenant , A United Methodist Community, 300 E. Martial, Lafayette, Louisiana for John B. Mouton, Jr., age 80, who passed away at 9:50 PM, Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Lafayette General Medical Center.Entombment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.Reverend Byron Aucoin, Pastor of the Indian Bayou Methodist Church of Rayne will conduct the Funeral Services.  Musical Selections will be "In The Garden", "Softly and Tenderly", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Blessed Assurance".Survivors include two daughters, Mary Fontenot and her husband, Curtis Harlan of Lafayette and Susan Phillips and her husband, Ross of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Wendy Semper and her husband, Dave, Tim David and his wife, Andrea, Michael Phillips, Andrew Phillips and Laura Phillips; and two great grandchildren, Samuel Semper and Carly Semper.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John Bryan Mouton, Sr. and the former Marguerite Daspit.A native of Sulphur, Louisiana, a resident of New Orleans for twenty six years and a resident of Slidell for ten years, and also lived in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, Mr. Mouton had been residing in Lafayette for a short time.He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1941 and attended McNeese Jr. College from 1941 to 1944, when he entered the Aviation Cadet Program with the United States Army.  He was a corporal in the Army Air Corp and served as an engineer-gunner on a B-17 Bomber with the 833rd Bomb Squadron of the 486th Bomb Group in World War II from 1944-1945.  Mr. Mouton was stationed in Sudbury, England and flew thirty missions over Germany. He was a proud member of the Confederate Air Force-Jackson, Mississippi Wing, serving on the flight crew of "Fi-Fi", their B-29 aircraft and also a B-24 aircraft.  Mr. Mouton was a member of the American Legion Post and VFW in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. He graduated from SLI in Lafayette in 1951, majoring in Geology.  After graduation, he was employed by Union Sulphur Company, Eastman Oil Well Survey Company.  He was a city salesman in New Orleans for Directional Engineers until retirement.The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM until time of the Funeral Services.Pallbearers will be Ross Phillips, Michael Phillips, Tim David, Andrew Phillips, Jules Arceneaux and Sherrell Fontenot.  Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette has been chosen to help with the arrangements. 337-234-2311.
