The Life of Benny Jules Andrus Sr.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Benny Jules Andrus, Sr., 83, who passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2011, at his residence in Lafayette. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Opelousas, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Macie Andrus, Mika Andrus, Matthew Andrus, Trevor Scarborough and Fisher Scarborough. Lectors will be Loretta Glod and Bart Gomez. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Velma Fontenot Andrus of Lafayette; one daughter, Julie Andrus Scarborough and her husband Mark of Livingston, TX; two sons, Benny Andrus, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Tucumcari, New Mexico, and Michael Andrus and his wife Jodie of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Mika, Macie and Matthew Andrus; Fisher, Trevor, Jake and Zane Scarborough; three step-grandchildren, Joni, Amanda and Melissa Hampton; step-great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicholas and Julianna; and three sisters, Laura Osterman of Montana, Betty Delahoussaye of Lafayette and Shirley Pellerin of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lezima Broussard Andrus and his brother, Lawrence James Andrus. A lifelong resident of Lafayette, Benny retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 40 years of service. He was a third-degree member of the Fatima Knights of Columbus, 40-year member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and past local chairman. Benny was an avid sportsman that loved to spend time fishing and hunting with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be Bart Gomez, Bill Delahoussaye, Mark Delahoussaye, Lawrence Delahoussaye, Connie English and Mark Scarborough. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Sunday, September 11, 2011, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
