The Life of Ernest J Hebert Sr.

Funeral Services will be held at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Leo the Great Church for Ernest J. Hebert, Sr., 81, who passed away on March 22, 2011 at 12:05 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Reverend Monsignor Charles Mallet will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Gift Bearers will be Rhiannon Perry, Natalie Hebert and Gaye Gorczakowsky. Lectors will be Nancy Hebert and Tammy Vannoy.

Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Hebert, a resident of Lafayette, LA, was the son of the late Dudley Hebert, Sr. of Carencro, Louisiana and the former Henrietta Verret of St. Martinville, Louisiana. Mr. Hebert was a Corporal in the Army. As an Infantry soldier, he served during the US occupation of Germany. He was awarded a Presidential Citation, a Good Conduct Metal and was recognized as a Sharp Shooter. He worked as an electrician for over 50 years and was a member of the IBEW Local 861 of Lake Charles. He loved fishing, hunting, animals, especially birds, to where he could identify any kind of bird. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Meaux Hebert of Lafayette; one daughter, Jill Deshotels and her husband, Daren of Carencro; two sons, Ernest J. Hebert, Jr. and his wife, Claire of Broussard, and Clint Hebert and his wife, Nancy of Carencro; six grandchildren, Rhiannon Perry and her husband, Todd, Fayez Jarrad and fianc'' Leah Charles, Tommy Hebert and his wife, Nicola, Natalie Hebert, Daniel Hebert, and Connor Deshotels ;two great grandchildren, Gabriel, and Grace; one sister, Mary Faul and her husband, Herman; two brothers, Dennis Hebert and his companion, Myrtle, and Dudley Hebert, Jr. and his wife, Barbara; his sister-in-law, Lula Mae Hebert; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Phyllis Hebert; infant sister; and one brother, Roland Hebert.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Friday from 8:00 am until time of services. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm.

Pallbearers will be Ernest J. Hebert, Jr., Thomas Hebert, Daniel Hebert, Daren Deshotels, Todd Perry, Fayez Jarrad, Ronald Trahan, and Joey Hebert. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clint Hebert, Dudley Hebert, Jr., Dennis Hebert, Bochdan Gorczakowsky, John Hebert, Dwayne Hebert, and Darrel Hebert.
