The Life of James E Benoit

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for James E. Benoit, 78, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lector will be Thomas LeBlanc. Giftbearers will be Cohen and Carson Cole. Valerie Andrus, organist and vocalist, will sing for the services, "Amazing Grace", "Ave Maria", "The Lord's Prayer" and "Be Not Afraid". Wesley Janise will give the eulogy. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Anna Grace Benoit; two daughters, Annette LeBlanc and her husband, David and Rachel Janise and her husband, Wesley; one sister, Mary Latiolais; two brothers, Felix Benoit and Harris Benoit; five grandchildren, Michelle Judith LeBlanc, James Daniel Janise, Matthew Brant Janise, David Ryan LeBlanc and his wife Brittany Mason and Joshua Charles LeBlanc; and two great grandchildren, Alaina Grace LeBlanc and Mason Jean LeBlanc. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Regina Trosclair Benoit; seven brothers, Adley, Fernest, Kinny, Roland, Emery, Wilfred, and Esteve Benoit; and two sisters, Lunia B. Cormier and Jeanne B. Guidry. A native of Youngsville, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for most of his life, Mr. Benoit was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy Reserve. Mr. Benoit was an entrepreneur who owned and operated many business throughout his life including, a grocery store, the Bull Dog Inn and Sports Center, Super Frog Billiards, Super Seafood Restaurant and Market, the Clock House and Benoit Sauce Picante. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church Community, where he served as an usher for many years. He loved wood carving and working with his hands. Mr. Benoit enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Pallbearers will be David LeBlanc, Ryan LeBlanc, Joshua LeBlanc, Wesley Janise, Daniel Janise and Matt Janise. Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Duhon and Harris Benoit. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location. The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
