The Life of Aymar Denais Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette, for Mr. Aymar Denais, Jr., age 90, who passed away at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in the St. Martinville Nursing Home in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Bill J. Melancon, Pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Survivors include one daughter, Denise "Poochie" Denais; a son-in-law, Henry Derise, Jr.; two grandsons, Michael Migues and his wife, Kelly and Jacques Migues; two granddaughters, Coni Notter and her husband, Nick and Tara Harris and her husband, Brett; two great grandchildren, Lauren Harris and Jacob Hathaway; and one sister, Nola Broussard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Blanchet Denais; his parents, Aymar and Blanche Denais; two sisters, Lola D. Bell, Rose D. Broussard; one brother, Raphael "Chief" Denais and one daughter, Jane Derise. Born on July 15, 1920, Mr. Denais was a native of Milton, Louisiana and was a resident of Lafayette for forty seven years. He was a veteran of military service, and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Denais attended SLI, now known as ULL. He had a lifetime of service to his state, parish and community. Mr. Denais retired after thirty years of service with the State Welfare Department and twenty five years of service with the Clerk of Court office in Lafayette Parish. He loved his work and servicing every individual that requested his help in any and everyway he could. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Denais was known as "Denais", "Uncle Man", "Daddy", "T-Man" and "Paw Paw" to so many, whom he enjoyed sharing time with. He was a member of the VFW and also served as an usher at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for numerous years. Pallbearers will be Michael Migues, Jacques Migues, Keith Colomb,Colby Colomb, Paul Broussard and Brett Harris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Henry Derise, Lucas Denais, Marcus Denais, George Broussard and Jacob Hathaway. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 9:00 AM until time of service. The family wishes to give special thanks to his caretakers, Gussie Provost, Kamie Provost, and Shirley Davis and to the staff of the St. Martinville Nursing Home for the compassionate care given to Mr. Denais. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Aymar Denais, Jr.'s name to St. Theresa Hospice, 100 General Mouton, Lafayette, Louisiana 70503.
