The Life of Azalie Crain

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at a 3:00 P.M. Service in the Episcopal Church of the Ascension for Mrs. Azalie W. Crain, age 88, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Thomas H. Trees, Associate Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Carolyn Crain Broussard, Allison Istre Lagasse and Mrs. I. W. Russek.Mrs. Jodi M. Bollich, accompanied on the organ by Mr.Tommy Guidry and on violin by Mrs. Lauren Rosen Baker, will sing for the services, "On Eagle''''s Wings", "Amazing Grace" and "Be Not Afraid". Survivors include one daughter, Azalie C. Holland of Houston, Texas and her special friend, Robert Butler; one son, George L. Crain, Jr. and his wife , Merilyn of Abbeville; her grandchildren, Carolyn Crain Broussard, John Creighton Crain, Allison Istre Lagasse and Stephen Scott Istre; great grandchildren, Matthew Thomas Broussard, Emily Anne Broussard, Zackary Scott Debaillon and Camille Elizabeth Lagasse; one sister, Lucille Webb Day and one brother, John Creighton Webb. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Crain, Sr.; her parents, John Creighton Webb and Nelwyn Roach Webb and her sister, Helen Webb Cooley. Mrs. Crain was a native of Shreveport and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for 55 years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension.Mrs. Crain was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School and received her Education Degree from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She was a founding member of the Service League which later became the Junior League of Lafayette. She was also a member of St. Hilda''''s Guild at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. Mrs. Crain was a member of the Order of the Troubadours as well as other carnival organizations. Mrs. Crain was dedicated to her family. She was always present for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The dedication, tenderness and commitment she showed to her late husband served as an example to all. Pallbearers will be John Creighton Webb, John Creighton Crain, Mark Anthony Broussard, Jr., Graham Allen Penniman, Robert Edward Penniman, Jason Roy Garrot, Brent Cappel Garrot, and Manard Mahoney Lagasse, Jr. The Crain Family would like to express their gratitude to Sam Trahan, Ruby Koch, Karen Lewis, Jamette Oubre and Pam Romero, who assisted with loving care of Mrs. Crain during her final years.The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''''s Southside location on Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Monday, March 29, 2010 from 10:00 AM until time of service.
