The Life of Joseph "Joey" O'Neal Dionne

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph “Joey” Dionne, 51, will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Pius Catholic Church with Msgr. Robert Angelle officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Sunday, June 14, 2009 from 10:00AM until 8:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, June 15, 2009 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Dionne a native of Lafayette and a resident of Broussard died at 8:45PM on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at his residence after a lengthly battle with cancer. Joey worked in the oil field for over 34 years and became known by many and has received several awards and recognitions for his service to the industry. His love for his family and church was evident through his involvement in their activities and education and having served on the Finance Committee for St. Pius Elementary School. Joey was also known for the pleasure he got from hunting, fishing, camping, boating, riding ATV’s and motorcycles, and playing golf. He is survived by his wife, Lawoka Creech Dionne of Broussard; a son, Ranger Spc. Jackson Kennedy and his wife Anna of Fort Benning, GA; two daughters, Shannon Dionne and Lauren Dionne both of Broussard; a sister, Cindy and her husband Paul Normand of Gretna; two grandchildren, Carter and Kayla Kennedy of Fort Benning, GA; two nephews, Todd Dionne of Lydia and Tanner Young of New Iberia; four nieces, Tammy Dionne of Slidell, Christy Melancon of Kenner, Kelly Falgout of Gretna, and Kristen Young of New Iberia; a sister in law, Lavenda Young of New Iberia; and a Brother in law, Ross Young of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carrol and Mabel Hanks Dionne; and a brother, Chuck Dionne. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Edge, Steve Bodden, Greg Smith, Dave Munnerlyn, John Berube, and Kary Monnier. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Paul Normand, Jackson Kennedy, Ross Young, Eddie Falgout, Sam Hardy, and Eddie Broussard. The family has requested that in lieu of flower donations be made to St. Pius Elementary School. David Funeral Home of Lafayette at 316 Youngsville Hwy (337)837-9887 will be handling the arrangements.
