The Life of Ampraro Cookie Piccione

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Ampraro "Cookie" Piccione, 89, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery.Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be Kathy Piccione and Jennifer LeBlanc. Lectors will be Carol Ann Piccione and Jennifer LeBlanc. Eulogist will be John Piccione. Jodi Bollich and Dave Domingue, vocalists, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, Wil Green, trumpeter and Lauren Baker, violinist, will sing "Amazing Grace", "Psalm 23", "Ave Maria", "Pie Jesu", "Panis Angelicus" and "On Eagles'' Wings" for the service. Survivors include her beloved husband of 68 years, Peter C. Piccione, Sr. of Lafayette; two sons, Peter C. Piccione, Jr. and Michael C. Piccione, both of Lafayette; two daughter-in-laws, Kathy Melancon Piccione and Jennifer Scialdone LeBlanc, both of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Dr. Jim Piccione and his wife Carol Ann, Paul Piccione and his wife Brooke, Charles Piccione and John Piccione; four great grandchildren, Caroline Piccione, Jack Piccione, Ainsley Piccione and Nicholas Piccione; and one sister, Josephine R. Piccione.She was preceded in death by one son, Richard J. Piccione; parents, Augustine and Josephine Escott Ruiz; and one brother, Augustine "Gus" Ruiz, Jr. A native of Valle de Santiago, GTO, Mexico and a resident of Lafayette since 1941, Mrs. Piccione traveled with her husband during his military service as an Air Force Pilot. She was formerly employed by St. Ann Infirmary as a medical secretary. Mrs. Piccione was a lifetime member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association Auxiliary, a founding member of the Oakbourne Country Club, a member of City Club of Lafayette, a member of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette and a member of the Italian-American Club. She was a member of the St. John Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Court Immaculata, Past President of the International Good Neighbor Council and a member of the Spanish Club.Pallbearers will be her two sons and four grandsons.A Rosary will be prayed by Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen today, Friday, August 7, 2009 at 5:30 PM and by the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Immaculata on Saturday at 11:00 AM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family requests that visitation be observed today, Friday, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
